Philosophy

I’m trying to create a second grade experience that I myself would have enjoyed at this age.

My philosophy with my classroom and working with children is twofold...

1. I always think of my two daughters and try to treat all my students just like I would want a teacher to treat them. And that is with respect, sincerity, enthusiasm and empathy.

2. The way I remember second grade is my teacher sat at her desk most of the day and we did workbooks after workbooks. I don’t remember her ever taking the time to talk to me besides improving my handwriting or that I had the wrong answer on a math page. She never really took an interest in really getting to know me as a person.  I think if she had I would have tried harder and been more interested in school that year. Some us become teachers because we were inspired by a great teacher and some of us, like myself, are inspired to be the opposite of a teacher we had. I want to know and be enthusiastic about my students.  I want them to look forward to school! I want to offer a fun-filled variety to my students’ day with hands-on projects, cool videos, and up-to-date web pages. I want to laugh and totally enjoy our school day together. I definitely believe that if education is fun the retention of what has been taught goes way up!
